Classroom Management

What is Classroom Management? My Classroom Management

When you walk into a classroom, you can clearly tell whether the teacher or students are in control and whether or not it is a safe learning environment.

It is the role of the teacher to establish and maintain the classroom in which students spend a large part of their day.

Therefore, as a teacher, it is important to think about how I make the classroom a safe environment in which learning occurs.

There are several theories and approaches related to classroom management.

However, it is up to each individual teacher to establish the management they follow.
What am I going to do?
  • I am going to be familiar with events taking place in the lives of my students.
  • I am going to make myself available to my students.
  • I am going to begin the year with "getting to know you" exercises.
  • I am going to build a safe classroom community and continue to strengthen this community during the school year.
What do I want?
  • I want my students to feel comfortable talking to me.
  • I want my students to respect me and the classroom.
  • I want my students to feel comfortable talking in front of their peers.
  • I want students to take responsibility for the classroom community and environment.

Kingdom Laws and Punishments Star Students
Classroom Rules
The "Kingdom Laws" are the rules for the classroom. The rules for my classroom are based around the concept of star students.
All students in the class are stars in their own way if they are following the rules.
I have created the rules using the acronym of
STAR.

Consequences
The consequences will be decided upon by the class.
We will use a clip system in which the students move their marker from one star to the next.
As a class, we will determine what the levels of consequences should be. These might include a warning, letter home, etc.
I want the students to feel some responsibility for the rules and consequences of the classroom.
